Indian Open marathon

NEW DELHI: The Mawana Sugars Indian Open marathon on December 23 will be the first run to test the 2010 Commonwealth Games route, although with different start and finish points.

The event will be conducted in full marathon and half-marathon categories for men, women, senior men and women.

The marathon will start and finish at the Guru Harkrishan Public School, India Gate, and will move from Purana Qila Road, Mathura Road, Bahadur Shah Jafar Marg, Delhi Gate, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Vivekanand Marg, Minto Road, Outer Circus Connaught Place, Janpath, Rajpath, Princes Place, Zakir Hussain Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Maharshi Raman Marg, Bhishma Pitamah Marg, Sewa Nagar overbridge, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Mathura Road before turning into Purana Qila Road.

The circular route is 21km long and the full marathoners will do two rounds of the route. Bhairav Singh Lone, the winner of the previous Indian Open marathon has confirmed his participation. The organisers expect around 1,500 to 2,000 runners to take part.
