“Home Guards have a key role in law and order”

TIRUCHI: Home Guards, who had rendered excellent support to the city police in crowd regulation and traffic enforcement, were honoured at a function here on Saturday.

About 100 Home Guards were presented with commendation certificates on the occasion. Special competitions on singing, short-put, dance, first-aid and running were also organised.

Home Guards are being drafted for special duty and they supplement the efforts of police personnel in maintaining law and order, the Assistant Commissioner of Traffic (North) P. Kaliyamoorthy said in his felicitations. He paid rich encomiums to their services and underlined their role in maintaining social order in co-ordination with the police personnel. The winners in the competition were honoured with prizes on the occasion.

The Home Guards Company Commander Vaiyapuri; the Inspector of Police (Home Guards) S. Savarimuthu and the Armed Reserve Inspector Selvam were among those who participated.
