Staff Reporter
VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakha Refinery of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited has bagged the first prize for energy conservation in petroleum refining sector for the year 2007.
President Pratibha Patil gave away the coveted prize at a function held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Friday. HPCL Chairman and Managing Director Arun Balakrishnan received the award. Visakh Refinery Executive Director P.A.B. Raju, HPCL General Manager (coordination) Ajit Singh and Senior Manager (process safety and environment) A.B. Chattopadhyay were present.
The selection for the award is done by Bureau Efficiency in the Ministry of Power with an objective to recognise special efforts made by Indian industry and other sectors in reducing energy consumption while maintaining manufacture capacities. Visakh Refinery’s specific energy consumption has been brought down drastically. The company invested Rs.5.2 crores in 2006-07 for energy conservation.
It is the second award Visakh Refinery bagged in the golden jubilee year celebration of the refinery.
The Jawaharlal Nehru centenary award (second prize) for improvement in its specific energy consumption over previous best was given away by Union Petroleum Minister Murali Deora at a function held at Trivandrum on September 19.
