Krishna Srinivas dead
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Renowned poet and president of the World Poetry Society Intercontinental Krishna Srinivas (94) died on Saturday.
Born in Srirangam in 1913, Dr. Srinivas graduated from University of Madras in 1932 and worked initially as a clerk and later, as a feature writer for the All India Radio in New Delhi.
A winner of Padma Bhushan award in 2004, Dr. Srinivas began to write poetry in English at an early age. He left Delhi and settled in Chennai as a freelance journalist and poet. In 1960, he launched his own poetry monthly journal POET, which was subscribed globally.
This led to the formation of the World Poetry Society Intercontinental. Dr. Srinivas was an editorial consultant to the International Who’s Who in Poetry, Cambridge, England. Culture Academics, Poetry Societies and foreign universities honoured him with awards and gold medals.
