Vimal is MSU’s hero

CHENNAI: Vimal Rajan scored once in each half to help Madras Sporting Union (MSU) beat RBI 2-0 in a CFA senior division football league match at the Nehru stadium on Saturday.

Vimal’s goals came in the 25th and 57th minutes. Earlier in the first division, FCI and Southern Railway were engaged in a goalless draw.

Vijay crushes Ashok

Vijay Kumar scored a convincing 9-0 win over Ashok in a plus-35 years singles pre-quarterfinal match in the Hindu-Sportstar KTC veterans tennis tournament being held at the KTC courts here.

Chetty Vaishnav SSS wins fifth title

G. Sathian’s inspired display helped Kolaperumal Chetty Vaishnav Senior Secondary School grab the CBSE National table tennis title in the competition held in Hyderabad. This is the fifth time the school is winning this title.

It had earlier triumphed in Chennai, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Mumbai. Apart from Sathian, the others in the team were Ananda Kanna, Abinav Arasu and Karthik Devarajan.

Veerans leave for Chandigarh

Chennai Veerans will leave the city on Sunday to participate in the fourth edition of the Premier Hockey League to be held in Chandigarh from December 20 to January 11.

At a press conference here, C.R. Kumar, the chief coach of Chennai Veerans, exuded confidence that his team would put up a good show. We should reach the semifinals. Anything more will only be a bonus, he said.

Adam Sinclair leads the 18-member team, inclusive of three foreign players. The captain said he was in fine form and without any injury, especially after the two-month stint in Germany. We are confident of doing well, he said.

Talking about the team, Kumar said it was a young side and the core was the same as the last edition. All the teams were evenly balanced.

Chennai Veerans takes on Maratha Warriors in its first match on December 21. B. Ramasamy will assist C.R. Kumar.

Athletics meet

The All India Ordnance Factories annual athletics meet is to be organised by the Heavy Vehicles Factory Avadi from December 21 to 23.

Around 500 athletes and officials from various parts of the country will be present here for the meet which will have 32 events, according to S. Chandrasekhar, Senior General Manager, HVF and Chairman of the Organising Committee.

TN team

J. Gopinath will lead the Tamil Nadu physically challenged team in the all-India cricket tournament for the differently abled to be held in Mumbai from December 17 to 21.
