IIM-K gets set for annual fete

Staff Reporter

‘Backwaters 2008’ from January 11

More than 25 international business schools will take part in the festival

Kozhikode: The annual management and cultural event of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K), “Backwaters 2008,” will be held on its campus at Kunnamangalam, near here, from January 11 to 13. The event is managed by the students themselves.

More than 25 international business schools will be among the participants, a press release from the media cell of the institute said here on Sunday.

Media contest

A media contest, in collaboration with Sony Entertainment Television (SET), is one of the highlights of this year’s programmes. The participants will come up with ideas for innovative shows for Sony Entertainment Network’s youth channel, SAB.

The theme of the event this year, “Evolution,” represents the evolving nature of the competitive spirit of “Backwaters,” the release said.

The flagship event will be Reliance White Knight, which is conceptually unique across all business school fests.

Students from leading institutions will be asked to work on a business plan to help alleviate some of the problems facing urban development. The winning team will get Rs. 1.5 lakh. An equal sum will be held in trust by the IIM-K and released to a non-governmental organisation when the idea gets implemented.

The event will feature a new business simulation game, spread across all verticals and organised in collaboration with a foreign university.

While the simulation will give an opportunity for participants to apply classroom concepts to the real world, a huge online treasure hunt has been organised to keep them guessing throughout December.

Cultural events

Various informal in-campus games and cultural events will mark the three-day extravaganza, which will culminate with the annual IIM-K alumni reunion, “Nostalgia.”

“Backwaters 2008” is being sponsored by Reliance Industries, Freudenberg, Deloitte, Bristlecone, CapGemini, TCS, Vodafone, Lenovo, ONGC, RPG, SET and Paymate. Pagalguy is the online media partner.
