Rousing performance by Navy’s band

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: An evening by the sea with the Indian Navy’s band putting up a rousing musical performance, citizens of Alappuzha could not have asked for a better weekend.

The Southern Naval Command band’s concert on the Alappuzha Beach on Sunday evening enthralled the local people who had gathered in large numbers on the seaside. With 40 musicians led by MCPO Sudarshan playing popular instrumental numbers from Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil films apart from showcasing their vocal talents, the rare gesture of the Navy was well appreciated.

The musical evening, which began at 6 p.m. and continued till 7.30 p.m., also had a mixture of Caribbean, Arabic and Portuguese instrumentals thrown in, apart from stirring pieces of Beethoven and other maestros.

The crowd, which included Alappuzha MLA K.C. Venugopal and District Collector V.K. Balakrishnan, among other dignitaries, was spread all over the beach and enjoyed the performance.
