Samba music to enliven Goa carnival

Two Brazilian tableaux will be part of it

PANAJI: Goa’s carnival parade this year will have an added attraction — Brazilian Samba music — with the proposed inclusion of two Brazilian tableaux based on the theme “Discovery of Brazil.”

Floats

The floats will have the cultural heritage of Brazil, besides the Brazilian song, dance and music, and will be an integral part of the floats. Brazilian community based in Goa and from rest of India as well as Goan performers will be the participants.

The State carnival is scheduled from February 2 to 5, 2008.

Collaboration

The Brazilian Consulate in Mumbai is all set to collaborate with Goa Tourism Development Corporation Limited (GTDC) to organise various socio-cultural activities in future, starting with the participation in Goa Carnival 2008, said Paulo Antonio Pinto, Consul-General of Brazilian Consulate in Mumbai, here on Saturday.

Recalling with fondness Goa’s age-old ties with Portuguese language and football, the Consul-General said that they were also the common bonds that tie Goa and Brazil. The jurisdiction of the Brazilian Consulate would soon be extended to Goa, he said. Deputy Consul-General of Brazil, Ms. Jandira Pacheco, was present.

Commonalities

Managing Director of GTDC Sanjit Rodrigues said that the corporation had received a letter from the Brazilian Consulate expressing its desire to go in search of exploratory avenues with Goa, in various fields.

“We will now be working on commonalties between Goa and Brazil,” he said.
