Amalapuram: Kudipudi Chittabbai M.L.A. Amalapuram said that the State Government is implementing a comprehensive project costing Rs. 3,361 crores to modernise irrigation canals and drainage systems in East Godavari district. He participated as chief guest in a seminar on urban facilities in rural areas organised as part of Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign here today. Speaking on the occasion, he said to prevent extensive damage to crops and lives during frequent cyclones and floods in the district, the government is modernizing the canals and drains at the cost of Rs. 1,695 crores. Godavari river banks are being fortified at a cost Rs. 500 crores for which the centre has started NREGA in the district. He appealed to people to make use of NREGA and State Government schemes like Indiramma Housing and Arogyasri. Medical campThere was huge response to the free mega medical camp being organized at the GMC Balayogi stadium as part of Bharat Nirman Public Information campaign. A group of 43 doctors and over 300 nursing staff are rendering services at the camp organized by the District Medical and Health Office. A dance ballet on AIDS presented by the artists of Song and drama division at GMC Balayoagi stadium, the main venue of the Bharat Nirman Public Information campaign on Sunday enchanted the audience. The mime ‘Prakriti’ on protection of environment, Burrakatha on national integration, Kuchipudi and folk dances, magic show were also appreciated.
