Stock-taking: Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Vanama Venkateswar Rao and District Collector Sashibushan Kumar at a review meeting at Bhadrachalam on Sunday. — BHADRACHALAM: Some 1700 malaria positive cases were reported in Khammam district till December 14 this year. This was revealed at a meeting held by the Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Vanama Venkateswar Rao and District Collector Sashibushan Kumar with the programme officials and the medical officials for a review of the measures initiated for control of malaria and other vector borne diseases. The Minister wanted the officials of theVaidya Vidhana Parishad hospitals and the primary health centres to make their services available round-the-clock in the affected areas. He wanted the fogging operations to be completed within a week in all the villages endemic for malaria. Some 90 fogging machines were provided to the district and 20 of them should be engaged in Bhadrachalam division,. He said the doctors and paramedical staff to stay at the headquarters without availing any sort of leaves until the situation improved considerably. He wanted the officials of other departments also to take due interest in the vector control measures. The Collector said there was no point in ruling out the incidence of malaria cases. The need of the hour was the effective implementation of the rapid action plan by reaching out every household. It must be shouldered by the concerned officials rather as a challenge. He said the incidence of dengue was also detected at places and no fever case could be taken for granted. The blood smear of every fever cases must be collected and sent for testing. He wanted the rapid action survey to be extended too some 60,000 children in the ashram schools and welfare hostels in the district. He stressed the need for conducting medical camps in the hostels.
