Postal staff oppose move to cut number of posts

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: The Joint Action Committee of postal employees belonging to the National Federation of Postal Employees (NFPE) and Federation of National Postal Organisations (FNPO) of Pondicherry Postal Division have opposed the move to reduce the number of posts in all categories of employees.

According to a press release here, the employees, who staged a demonstration on Friday, pressed for a total of 16 demands, including appointment of more postmen at the head post office for speed post service .

“Decentralisation causes delay”

Decentralisation of speed post through sub-office was causing delay in delivery, the release said.

The employees wanted posts of drivers to be filled. They also sought appointment of personnel for new services such as speed post extension and logistics post.

Service regularisation

They called for regularisation of services of persons appointed on compassionate grounds, the release added.
