Fiat on Labour Welfare Fund

THENI: The Department of Labour has advised all establishments to remit contributions for the Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Fund before 31 January 2008, failing which they are liable to proceedings under the Revenue Recovery Act, according to M.U. Kutpudhin, Industrial Inspector (in-charge).
Section 2 (d) of Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Fund Act, 1972, covers all factories, transport companies and plantation establishments irrespective of the number of employees, and other commercial or catering units with the strength of five and above employees.
Persons who are employed for 30 days during the preceding 12 months, irrespective of their monthly income, should contribute to the Fund.
All establishments should send their contribution of Rs.15 — employer’s share of Rs.10 and employees’ contribution Rs.5 each — per employee for 2007 by Demand Draft in favour of the Secretary, Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Board, DMS Compound, Teynampet, Chennai 600 006.
