NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday presented the State Awards for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy to individuals, organisations and institutions for their outstanding contribution in the field during the past year. The awards were presented on the concluding day of the three-day Power Asia Exhibition at Pragati Maidan here. Power Minister A.K. Walia was also present. Speaking on this occasion, Ms. Dikshit complimented the award winners and said they would inspire other members of society in conservation of energy. She hoped the award winners would continue to guide and provide useful information to members of society so that the energy conservation movement gets the required impetus. The Chief Minister said her Government had constituted an Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Management Centre to promote energy conservation and use of renewable energy in the Capital. The Cabinet had also approved extension of subsidy on installation of solar heaters in all cooperative group housing societies, hostels and hospitals whereas this subsidy was earlier being granted to individuals. CFL mandatoryMs. Dikshit further said her Government had also made mandatory installation of CFL bulbs and electronic chokes in all Government buildings. Apart from this, her Government had been advocating construction of buildings for Commonwealth Games on the concept of green building. Exhorted people to inculcate the habit of making judicious use of electricity and avoid wastage of power, Ms. Dikshit said the children of Delhi were also being involved in bringing this sort of awareness. The Chief Minister gave away commendation certificates to eight institutions for taking measure for promoting energy conservation and renewable energy in their buildings. The institutions include Batra Hospital, Moolchand Medicity Hospital, Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, Hotel Vasant Continental, ITC Maurya, Madhya Pradesh Bhawan, Sanchar Bhawan, Paharpur Business Centre and Software Technique Incubator Park. Ms. Dikshit also launched a programme for constitution of “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Clubs” in schools to make the students partners in this movement. These clubs have already been set up in 35 schools, she added.
