Manjeswaram check-post to be made graft-free

KASARAGOD: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac on Sunday kicked off a campaign for a corruption-free Manjeswaram check-post on the lines of the corruption-free Walayar campaign. He laid the foundation stone for a new commercial taxes complex at the Hosangadi check-post, near Manjeswaram, in the district. The officials at the check- post took a pledge that they would not accept any bribes or favours.

Inaugurating a public meeting, Dr. Isaac said the emphasis of the government was on creating a corruption-free environment by providing officials with the necessary infrastructure and amenities. The Minister said so far a private parcel services company was providing amenities to officials at the check-post. The government has discontinued this practice. He said it was the government’s duty to provide a corruption-free environment to the officials. Stern action would be taken against those found indulging in corruption, he said. Dr. Isaac said the situation at check-posts in the State was such that it abetted corruption among officials. The Minister directed the Kasaragod District Superintendent of Police to ensure that middlemen did not operate from the premises of the check-post. All small shops inside the check-posts from where the middlemen operated should be dismantled, he said. Dr. Isaac released a citizen rights charter detailing the rights of the public at the check-post.
