Weightlifter makes VTU proud

Belgaum: Vasudha, a first semester student of Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication, of the GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women, Mysore, has made her parents, college and the Visvesvaraya Technological University proud for excelling in international competitions.

Vasudha, daughter of Parameshwar M., returned home with gold medals in the Second Commonwealth Power Lifting Championship-2007, held at Christ Church in New Zealand from December 5 to 9.

The VTU had fully sponsored Vasudha to represent India for the championship title.

She also becomes the first Indian participant to secure first place and four gold medals in the sub-junior class and + 90 kg category. The three individual gold medals and one group gold medal came to her in ‘Squat’, ‘Bench Press’, ‘Dead Lift’ and ‘Individual overall championship’.

On her return, the VTU felicitated Vasudha at its Jnana Sangama campus in Belgaum on December 13, for her success and achievement, and for bringing a good name to the nation and the university. Mr. Parameshwar, VTU’s physical education director Arif Ali Khan and VTU registrar M.S. Shivakumar were present on the occasion, according to a release.
