Spurt in poll rallies in Himachal Pradesh

Two days remain for campaigning

SHIMLA: With just two days remaining for the campaigning to end for the second phase of Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh, there is a sudden spurt in election rallies all over the State.

Senior BJP leader Lal Krishan Advani addressed two important rallies in Bajnath, Naduan and appealed to the people to get rid of a “corrupt” and “non performing” Congress government.

Accompanied by Shanta Kumar he dwelled on various national issues including the “sell out” of Indian interests by the UPA government while signing the nuclear deal with the US. Sharing his experiences of Gujarat he said, it is the most progressive and peaceful State with a highest growth rate.BJP president Rajnath Singh also lashed out at Congress at meetings in Karsog, Ghumarwin and Kot Kehloor constituencies.

Shushma Swaraj addressed the rally of Himachal BJP president Jai Ram Thakur at Chachiot. She questioned the foreign origins of leader of Congress and “fraud” committed on people by Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh by making false promises on giving jobs and shelter to the homeless. The Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi addressed a dozen of small gatherings during his road show on the Kullu-Mandi highway. He emphasised that Congress is the only party which is taking all sections of the society together on the path of progress.

The BSP supremo Mayawati also addressed a huge rally in Una in support of her candidates.

She appealed to dalits and economically weaker sections of the society to not to vote for the Congress and BJP which are anti-poor.

She reiterated her stand on giving reservations to the backwards and dalits in private sector companies.
