Mandala puja on December 27

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Mandala puja, marking the culmination of the 41-day Mandala-vrathom (penance) that constitutes the first phase of the Sabarimala pilgrimage, at the Lord Ayyappa temple will be held on December 27.

Tantri Kandararu Maheswararu said the Mandala puja would be held in the auspicious time between 12.29 p.m. and 12.40 p.m. on Thursday. The Ayyappa idol would be decorated with the Thanka Anki, sacred golden attire, prior to the Mandala puja.

The annual procession carrying the golden attire would set off to Sabarimala from Aranmula on December 23. According to Travancore Devaswom Board authorities, the Thanka Anki would be taken out of the Devaswom strong-room at the Sree Parthasarathy Temple at Aranmula and would be kept at the ‘nadappanthal’ of the temple for the devotees to have darshan from 5 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Then it would be taken to Pampa in a decorated motorised chariot for the Mandala puja. The procession would reach Omalloor, via Nedumprayar, Kozhencherry, Karamvely, Elanthoor, Elavumthitta, Mezhuveli, and Prakanam, in the night. It would proceed to Muringamangalam Temple in Konni on December 24 via Pathanamthitta and Kumbazha.

After the night halt at the Muringamangalam Temple, it would proceed to the Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, at Perinad in the morning.
