dated December 17, 1957: World capital

New Delhi has now become one of the five world capitals, Mr. Hashim Jawad of Iraq told the Political Committee of the United Nations on December 14 when it was discussing the question of peaceful co-existence. Mr. Jawad said that through most of the 19th century the world capital was London.

After the Second World War, the world capitals were Washington, Moscow and London, and to-day, he said, “ the designated world capitals are Washington, Moscow, London, Peking and New Delhi.”
