Shocking

The killing of Abhishek Tyagi, a class VIII student, by his classmates in a Gurgaon school is shocking and, at the same time, an eye-opener. Television serials glorify villains as the chosen ones for acting above the ordinary. Children who watch these serials are thoroughly fascinated by the gun culture. It is the duty of parents to educate them and impress upon them that serials are meant for entertainment and are not to be taken seriously.

Why can’t the government bring a rule saying television serials should have a moral that the good should prevail over the bad? It is strange that while, on the one hand, companies thrive on personality development and positive communication, on the other, the media promote violence and negativity.

Savithri Ravichandran,

Chennai

It is the sole responsibility of those possessing a licensed gun to keep it in safe custody. Possession of a licensed gun should not be construed as a licence to kill a person. It should be used judiciously for self-defence alone.

H.P. Murali,

Bangalore

Parents are squarely to blame for the way in which children are brought up. Young minds are getting corrupted by the media which portray violence. It is the duty of teachers at school and parents at home to inculcate values of tolerance and love in the minds of children. Schools must stress on moral education, which alone can pave the way for a peaceful society.

Shyamala Swaminathan,

Thiruvananthapuram
