NEW DELHI: Indian team player Vishal Singh fired four goals as does the Argentine five-goaler Santiago Cernadas, but in the end it was the half-a-goal on handicap that came handy for Cavalry Red to win the Amity Cup eight-goal polo tournament at the Jaipur Polo Ground here on Sunday. The Reds started with a whisker of an advantage on handicap, but Cavalry Black pumped in three goals early on in the first chukker to sound the warning. It was left to Vishal Singh to undo the damage that helped Reds to beat Blacks six-and-a-half goals to six in the seasoned-ending event here. Tunku Ibrahim Ismail, the King of the Johor province in Malaysia, opened the account for Blacks on the very first move after throw in. Cernadas quickly added two more goals as Blacks opened up a good lead at the end of the first chukker. The second chukker saw Vishal Singh convert three penalties, two 30-yard and one 60-yard, as Reds took slender lead. Blacks, however, closed the chukker with an advantage as J. S. Virk chanced upon a loose ball at the goalmouth melee. A 30-yard penalty in the third chukker helped Cernada to his third goal but the action was largely in the middle of the field. Reds closed in slowly with Vishal set up Tarun Sirohi, who nicely moved up and scored. A minute later, Tunku Iman Ibrahim scored the fifth goal for Reds. Cernada was not through yet as he moved solo and completed the act by slotting in his fourth goal, but a foul towards the end of the final chukker handed Reds a 60-yard penalty, which Vishal scored with a powerful grounder for the winning half-a-goal lead. — Principal Correspondent
