Two literary personalities honoured

BHUBANESWAR: The capital city hosted two significant literary events on Saturday where two literary figures, English poet Rabindra Kumar Swain and Oriya short story writer Prakash Mohapatra were honoured.

Jnanapitha awardee poet Sitakant Mohapatra released ‘Susurrus in the Skull’, the fourth book of poems by Mr. Swain in a special function organised to honour the latter by the Third Eye Communications at the OAS Association Hall.

It was attended by literati. Professor Himanshu Sekhar Mohapatra, who contributes literary criticism for Literary Review of The Hindu, reviewed the book on the occasion. Mr. Swain is the second Oriya writer after the internationally-acclaimed poet Jayant Mohapatra, whose works were published in The Times Literary Supplement published from the London. He is also the managing editor of the well-known journal on poetry ‘Chandrabhaga’.

Another event was hosted at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan by Sibaram Patra Memorial Trust where short story writer Mr. Prakash Mohapatra was honoured. Eminent poet Soubhagya Mishra presented him the Sibaram Smruti Puraskar and released his book ‘Keeta O Anyanya Galpa’.

The Trust, set up in memory of late Sibaram Patra, promoter of Oriya literature, selectes the manuscript of an outstanding fiction writer every year for the award, publishes it and releases the book on the occasion to honour the writer.

Jyoti Nanda, acclaimed writer, reviewed the book on the occasion while young poet and critic Kedar Mishra introduced the awardee.
