Sir, — After a 12-year wait, we now have the Bangalore-Mangalore passenger train. The authorities who worked on the ghat section should be appreciated for the achievement. It is suggested that the train be renamed “Malnad Express.” The journey time is 12 hours from Bangalore to Mangalore. It is important to introduce another pair of trains i.e. 6515/6516 which still remains on paper. Now that this line has been opened it is time the authorities thought of regularising it by diverting some trains via Mangalore such as the 1035/1036 Mysore-Dadar Sharavathi Express which connects places such as Udupi, Karwar, Madagao and Ratnagiri. Varun Dambal, Bangalore Ensure decencySir, — The incident involving a woman from Delhi is an example of the unhealthy atmosphere prevailing in Bangalore. All responsible organisations, not only those of the Government, but also social organisations, including the media and the public should be committed to eradicating such immoral activities to ensure safety and decency in the city. V.S. Ganeshan, Bangalore Footpath invasionSir, — With reference to the news report in The Hindu (December 12) on footpaths being used by two-wheeler riders, I suggest placing of two large concrete planters side-by-side on the footpath with enough space between for pedestrians, but not wide enough for two wheelers. Sanjeev Gadre, Bangalore Traffic snarlsSir, — Vehicular traffic on Rustam Bagh Layout, off Airport Road, has increased manifold in recent times. The increase in apartment complexes and commercial activities in the area has contributed to this. The problem is compounded by parking of vehicles on both sides of the roads. V. Padmanabhan, Bangalore Readers can also email letters to letters.mysore @thehindu.co.in
