BHUBANESWAR: In a major breakthrough, the Sambalpur police have arrested two Maoists and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from their possession. The arrested extremists had been identified as James alias Pawan Lohar (24) and Uddhaba Putta (20). James hailed from neighbouring Jharkhand, while Putta belonged to Purunapani village of Sambalpur district. The two were arrested on Saturday, according to the Sambalpur police. Ammunition seizedAround 2,400 rounds of bullets and arms such as 7.62 mm and 9 mm pistols and .303 rifles had been seized from the Maoists’ hideout in Jarang forest under Jujumara police station of the district. Besides, three landmines weighing 10 kg each, fuse wires and communication gadgets had also been recovered at the instance of the arrested Maoists. James, who was said to be an expert in laying landmines, was wanted in as many as 24 criminal cases, including 10 of murder. Putta had a dozen cases registered against him.
