State will overtake Gujarat in industrial investment: CM
HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh is posed to overtake Gujarat in industrial investments in the coming years, according to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
“I have no doubt that Andhra Pradesh will surpass Gujarat in industrial infrastructure and investments in a host of leather, textiles, IT, automobile and bio-technology products,” Dr. Reddy exuded confidence while reviewing progress of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) here on Sunday.
The State has so far attracted industrial investment of Rs. 25,172 crore during 2006-07 and is on the anvil of huge investments in SEZs, industrial parks and multi-product clusters emerging all over the State.
A press release from the Chief Minister’s office here said that the Principal Secretary (Industries) B. Sam Bob informed Dr. Reddy that 70 SEZs have been approved for the State of which 46 have already been notified.
They were being developed over 6,894 hectares at a cost of Rs. 32,525 crore. Of these, 24 SEZs received permissions in principle and were being set up in 1,250 hectares.
