Dhotis, saris ready for free distribution
VIRUDHUNAGAR: The district administration has kept 4.78 lakh saris and 4.66 dhotis ready for free distribution for the Pongal festival.
In a statement, the Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, said that based on the details of requirement given by the Tahsildars, sufficient number of saris and dhotis have been procured from Co-optex and sent to the offices of the Tahsildars.
The clothes would be distributed to the eligible beneficiaries through the ration shops from January 1 to 10. The details of the distribution schedule would be displayed at all the fair price shops. The distribution time table and the number of beneficiaries who will get the goods on each day would be prepared soon.
Stating that the goods have been stamped with a special coding, the Collector said that a committee comprising the village administrative officer, Panchayat President, and ward member would be formed to select the beneficiaries.
