MADURAI: A pulse polio immunisation campaign to administer oral vaccine to all children aged 0-5 will be conducted on January 6. One more round will follow in February.
The Government convened a meeting in Chennai on Friday to discuss the arrangement for the exercise that will cover more than 60 lakh children.
“District officials have been asked to concentrate on children of workers involved in construction activity and of labourers from other States,” A. Palanichamy, Deputy Director of Health Services, Madurai, told The Hindu on Sunday.
The Directorate of Public Health has asked Health Department officials to ensure complete coverage in view of a polio case reported recently in Bangalore. Migrants, road workers and slum-dwellers are the focus groups.
Health inspectors attached to the Primary Health Centres have been asked to make a list of children of workers engaged in road projects, especially in northern districts. Publicity will begin in the last week of December.
