GIVING A BIT OF ADVICE: Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi addressing the party’s Youth Wing conference in Tirunelveli on Sunday.

TIRUNELVELI: Hinting at a larger role for Local Administration Minister M. K. Stalin in the government, the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said he was aware of the expectations of the people in this regard.

“Your expectations will come true. We will announce shortly when this will happen,” the Chief Minister said at the conclusion of the two-day Youth Wing conference of the DMK.

Two themes

Mr. Karunanidhi confined his address on Sunday evening to two themes: one, advice to Mr.Stalin and two, the need for a youth movement on Sethusamudram project.

Mr.Karunanidhi said that it was not merely enough for a son to say that he would follow the path set by his father. This was the easy part, he told his son, Mr. Stalin.

“I am sure you will tread that path,” he said, adding that one evidence was the manner in which Mr. Stalin conducted the youth meet here.

It was because the DMK had faith in him that he was given the charge of the youth wing, Mr. Karunanidhi said.

On Saturday, speaking after the evening sound and light show, poet Vairamuthu had said that both Mr.Stalin and his brother M.K. Azhagiri should consider themselves to be two hands of a clock. One would always be faster while another would be slow. Referring to this, Mr.Karunanidhi said that he did not care how the hands moved as long as the clock showed the time correctly.

Elaborating, Mr.Karunanidhi said that the larger goal was to ensure that the party discharged its duties towards the people well; individuals did not matter.

Setting the agenda for DMK youth for the next year, Mr. Karunanidhi said that there was a huge misinformation campaign on the Sethusamudram project.

“You should start tomorrow,” he told the youth, adding that they should visit each village and take with them scientific proof that the project was sound. Only then would the people be convinced, he said.
