CHENNAI: The police arrested four software professionals on charges of causing public nuisance after consuming liquor at a private party on East Coast Road here on Saturday night. Based on a complaint lodged with the police control room, a mobile patrol team rushed to the spot at 2.30 a.m. A search of the private farm house revealed that at least five men and eight women were in the midst of birthday celebrations. The police found four of them in an inebriated condition. After registering a case under the City Police Act (Section 75), they were let off on bail at around 6.30 a.m. Joint Commissioner of Police (South) G.Dorairaj told The Hindu on Sunday that the owners of private farm houses on the ECR who rented out their premises for such parties would be warned the first time, but for repeated offences, the police would register cases against them. In the last one week alone, the police raided five to six private farm houses and arrested over 10 persons after they received complaints from the public that they created a lot of noise. Police officers in Neelankarai and Thoraipakkam said owners of many farm houses visited their property only on rare occasions. Utilising this opportunity, a few middlemen indulged in bribing the watchmen of the farm houses and let out a portion for parties for a hefty price.
