Good Run: Raghu Kunche. There is no dearth of pretty faces laughing, giggling and smiling back at you. They anchor shows, conduct quiz, host programmes, offer prizes and generally are all over Telugu channels and the more you browse, the more they can be found in numbers. Did you realise that almost all of them are female anchors? But for a couple of faces who managed to stay afloat, the concept of male anchors has apparently failed to catch up with viewers on Telugu channels. Several did try and in early days of television when not many female anchors were around, some of them had a decent run too. Unlike Hindi channels where one could find success stories for male anchors such as Shekar Suman, Javed Jafri, Cyrus Brocha and others, a raw deal appears to have been dished out on Telugu channels. One of the more successful male anchors, Raghu Kunche had a good run for some time. The pleasant anchor built a certain reputation of his own with shows such as ‘Song Bhala’, ‘Samaja Vara Gamana’, ‘24 Frames’ and ‘Morning Show’. These days, Omkar is one of the anchors who are able to grab some limelight in an otherwise female dominated field of anchoring. Another anchor who sustained success with a series of popular shows is Prabhakar of ETV. Shifting anchorsTelugu channels are in a state of flux as far as their personnel are concerned. News readers and anchors are shifting, producers are moving out and in and same is the happening with technicians. The situation is not just restricted to the middle level operations but even the top is said to be active these days. The new news channel have stirred the movement and the talk of morein the pipeline is sure to liven up the whole affair further. T. LALITH SINGH
