A finishing touch to New Year greetings

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: India Post has released New Year greetings stamps and First Day covers. Three million of these attractive stamps of Rs. 5 denomination are up for sale now.

Speaking after the release, Director-General of Posts I.M.G. Khan said that India Post would aggressively market its stamps in India and abroad.

India Post had had talks with the Ministry for External Affairs and sales and exhibitions of Indian stamps at its missions abroad.

“Stamps represent the culture and achievements of a nation. People all over the world want our stamps. But the department has been failing in marketing them properly,” he said. On the cards are silver-plated stamps, a unique signature set, in association with Hallmark, he said. Addressing the employees, Mr. Khan urged them to ensure that the cards and stamps be made easily available this season. “We have been treating cards as second-class and lost a lot of business. We should ensure that greeting and invitation cards reach on time. That is our major business and we should not forget that,” he said. India Post would tie up with International Postal System which would put its Speed Post on an international track system, he said.
