NOVEL step: Stephen Ryrie, Associate Dean, UWE (second left), exchanging an MoU with C. R. Swaminathan, Chief Executive of PSG Institutions (right), at the PSG College of Technology in the city. COIMBATORE: The PSG Institute of Advanced Studies and University of West England (UWE), Bristol, the United Kingdom, signed a memorandum of understanding to offer split master’s programmes such as M.Sc. (Information Technology) and M. Sc. (Software). The MoU that was signed by C.R. Swaminathan, Chief Executive of PSG Institutions, and Steve West, acting Vice-Chancellor of UWE, here recently will enable students to study a part of their course at PSG and pursue one semester and project work at UWE to earn the degree. A. Kandaswamy, Professor and Head, Biomedical Engineering, PSG College of Technology, said: “This will reduce the financial burden on the students to study the entire course at UWE. Apart from this, faculty exchange is also included for mutual benefit. Some of the faculty may be deputed to do research at UWE leading to Ph.D. degree.” Faculty would be exposed to the curriculum developed by UWE and also the methodology adopted to implement the curriculum. They would also learn and practise advanced teaching-learning process as implemented at UWE and enhance the self learning skill of the students. The MoU would help PSG College of Technology set up advanced laboratories in the areas of Information Technology and Software. Stephen Ryrie, Associate Dean, UWE, explained the various facilities available at UWE for students and gave an insight about the various industries at Bristol. For admission to M.Sc.(IT) and M.Sc.(SW), students having B.E. and B. Sc. degrees with relevant specialisation are eligible. Before applying for UWE, student must have a qualification in English equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 600. Admission will start from June 2008.
