Treat for all: Folk artistes performing at the Palnadu Kala Jatara in Dachepalli on Sunday. — DACHEPALLI: Palnadu Utsavam kicks off on a colourful note on Sunday with two ministers, local MP and MLA participating in Palnadu Jatara carrying the Palnadu Jyothi that was lit on December 14 and people in thousands converging on the Bhrahmanaidu Open Air Theater here. An entire generation can progress or develop only when it knows its past history and the aim of the State Government was to let the youth the region know what values their ancestors stood for, said Andhra Pradesh Cultural Council Chairman Dharmavarapu Subhrahmanyam at the inaugural. Complimenting the local MLA Janga Krishna Murthy for taking the initiative of organising such a festival in the heart of Palnadu, to keep the glory of the past alive for the posterity, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anam Ramnarayana Reddy said that Department of Culture had given Rs.5 lakh to organise the festivities. Past gloryPromising to make this an annual feature, the Minister said that it was up to the District Cultural Board headed by District Collector to finalise the venue of the Utsavam every year so that all parts of the district come to know of the Palnadu glory of 12th Century. People in large number gathered at the Mandal Revenue Office here to receive the torch that travelled all the nine Palnadu mandals in three days and was back here to be kept the festival venue. Folk artistes dressed like Bhadra Kali and demons danced on the streets and walked in front of the torch up to Nadikude open air theater. Stalls depicting the current face of Palnadu pictorially and the products specific to the region were put on displayed. Some schools put up stalls to display some scientific principles to drive out myth on various aspects. Agro products and inputs of various companies were also on display. Hyderabad-based Ramki Foundation chipped in with their man power and funding to organise the three-day festivities. Men and women dressed in their best clothes reached the venue in afternoon, but evening had some lively cultural fare for them at the packed theater.
