S. Jaipal Reddy at a meeting at Bapatla on Sunday. BAPATLA: Union Minister for Urban Development S. Jaipal Reddy has called upon the people to be wary of regional parties, which can create instability and vote for a national party like Congress in the forthcoming elections. The Union Minister took part in a slew of programmes in the Bapatla municipality, inaugurating the pylon of an Rs. 49 crore storm water drainage system, inaugurating the new municipal complex block constructed at a cost of Rs.80 lakh and laying the foundation stone for the construction of a CC road at a cost of Rs.22 lakh. Addressing a public meeting on the Municipal High School grounds here on Sunday, he reminded that the country has been progressing well on the economic front, registering an impressive growth rate of 6 per cent. The UPA led Central Government had also kept the communal forces at bay and the country had not witnessed any communal riot for the last three and a half years, he said. While agriculture continues to be the backbone of the economy, the future economy would lead to greater urbanization, he said. The Prime Minister took the lead in conceptualizing JNNURM. Of the Rs.1,600 released to the development of small and medium towns, Rs.600 crore were allotted to Andhra Pradesh alone, he said. Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Daggubati Purandhswari, Minister M. Venkata Ramana Rao, MLA Gade Venkata Reddy, D. Manikya Vara Prasad, Z.P. Chairperson K. Vijaya, Joint Collector Kantilal Dande and other leaders were present.
