Chandrababu Naidu that the government failed to add even a single acre to the existing ayacut, Minister for Irrigation and Medak in-charge minister Ponnala Laxmaiah announced that a record breaking 11.9 lakh acres have been added to the irrigated area in the State. Addressing a press conference here on his way to Peddashankarampet mandal, Laxmaiah said that the comments of the former Chief Minister here during the road show indicate that he was unable to overcome the shock of the electoral debacle. Separate circleThe Minister announced a separate irrigation circle for Medak and said that it would be established within 10 days. Earlier, Medak was under the Nizamabad circle. Enlisting ongoing and future irrigation projects for the district, Ponnala said that Bagareddy project was designed to irrigate 40,000 acres in the district. He said that construction of canals was delayed due to land acquisition problems. He said that Minister for School Education Damodar Rajnarsimha would distribute Rs. 1.24 crore to 92 farmers who lost their land for the Singur canal in Kondareddypet and Etigadda Kistapur. ModernisationThe Minister said that Rs. 20 crore would be spent on modernisation of Nallavagu and Rs. 54 crore for flood flow canal, while tender process has been completed for the diversion of Narinjavagu.
