Continuous education on health awareness in schools mooted
MADURAI: The district administration had plans to introduce continuous education in schools that would create awareness among students on health, said District Collector, S.S. Jawahar, here recently.
Addressing a function to mark the World AIDS Day at the Indian Medical Association Hall here, he exhorted the student community to be aware of their health condition to equip themselves better to face challenges and stressed the need for a continuous educational programme that would motivate them to take care of their health.
Pointing to the stigma attached to people living with HIV (PLHIV) in society, he appealed to the public to create enough opportunities that would motivate such persons to enjoy their life.
People should take initiative to create awareness among PLHIV about their rights and see to it that their rights were not denied, Mr. Jawahar said.
He also took oath to support persons affected with HIV and read out a pledge emphasising the need to help such people.
The Collector gave away cash awards for winners of essay competitions.
