2.28 lakh government vacancies filled

TIRUNELVELI: In just over a year and a half after it came to power, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government has added 2.28 lakh government employees.
A resolution adopted at the DMK youth conference here thanked the Government for keeping its word on filling vacancies and recalled that in the run up to the 2006 elections, the DMK had estimated that there were three lakh job vacancies in Government. The DMK, after it came to power, began to systematically fill the vacancies, it said and added that till now 2,28,149 persons had been recruited.
The largest single recruiter-department is under Local Administration Minister and youth wing leader M.K. Stalin: the schools in Municipal and Panchayat Union areas.
Together, they recruited 53,005 teachers on time scale pay while the School Education department, run by Thangam Thennarasu, recruited 51,099 during the same time. The Alankulam MLA and Social Welfare Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna’s department filled as many as 32,105 vacancies. The remaining departments recruited fewer persons with the Agriculture department making up the bottom of the list with 340 persons and Law department: 345.
