The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) remained one of the main schemes. He also gave an account of other programmes of the Government, including Bharat Nirman that was aimed at improving infrastructure in rural areas.

Mr. Vasan said Congress president Sonia Gandhi was particular that the party remained the guardian of the minorities.
