NEW DELHI: Maharashtra’s Pratik Patil upset sixth seed Andhra Pradesh’s K. Vijaya Kanth in the third round of the Parsvnath 21st National boys (under-13) chess championship at the Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra here on Sunday. Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu boy Ramalingam Karthik had provided the first surprise of the event by holding fifth seed Fenil Shah from Gujarat in the second round. The results (third round): Vidit Gujarati (3) bt Praveen Kumar (2); Chiman Prakash Reddy (2) lost to Prasanna Rao (3); N. Srinath (3) bt M. Hari Hara Sudan (2); Rishi Thariani (2) lost to Ankit Rajpara (3); Pratik Patil (3) bt K. Vijaya Kanth (2); Pranav Shetty (3) bt Aubhropratim Manna (2); N.R. Sai Manivannan ( 2.5) drew with Anurag Mhamal (2.5); Girish Koushik (3) bt Shaik Abdul Azeez (2); Manshul Shah (3) bt Shardul Gagare (2); Anand Reddy (2.5) drew with Kedar Umesh Vaze (2.5).
