School Notes

Mathematics quiz

The Sivagiri Vidyaniketan Senior Secondary School, Thottumukham, Aluva, organised a mega Mathematics quiz on its main campus. The event was organised by the alumni association of the school, in memory of Joseph Anthraper, former principal. Principal Tessy Francis said teams from 25 schools participated. Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya won the first prize, followed by Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya. Jyoti Nivas Public School, Aluva, came third.

AIDS awareness rally

The health club of the St. Augustine’s High School, Kaloor, organised an AIDS-awareness cycle rally and seminar, in association with the National Cadet Corps (NCC), aimed at spreading the message on the need to prevent the spread of the disease. Head Master A.R. Anthony said medical experts and NCC officers handled sessions at the seminar. A poster-design competition too was held. Students from the school went to five neighbouring schools and made the students fill questionnaires about AIDS. Programme coordinator and NCC First Officer V.A. Joy said the questionnaire brought out interesting details.

Christmas celebrations

The Christmas celebrations of the Toc-H Public School will be held on Wednesday. Apart from singing regular carols, members of the school choir have readied themselves to sing carols from Spain, Italy, France and Germany. School Principal Sathi Ramachandran said a couple of priests from abroad will come as observers, to witness the event.

Spelling Bee

The Marrs Open Spelling Bee and literary competitions will be held in January and February in different parts of the State.

The winners will qualify for the district-level championship. There will be school and college level competitions. There is a separate event for KG kids. For details, call 0484 -6460836 or e-mail marrsevents@yahoo.com.

Basketball tournament

The Sacred Heart CMI Public School, Thevara, won the All-Kerala Mini Basketball Tournament held at the St. Paul’s International School, Kalamassery, Principal Fr George Koyikkara has informed.
