VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam depot of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) set a record on Sunday by earning Rs.33,45,384, including Rs.24,47,227 it got through Sabarimala trips. Normally, the depot earns Rs.8 lakh per day in December. The collection of buses which have returned from Sabarimala trips is taken into account and earning is calculated, said RTC assistant manager (traffic) V. Srinivas. The depot operates 100 buses on city and rural routes daily. The Vizag depot which earned the highest collection in the entire zone of Vijayawada and Viziangaram, broke its own record set on January 17 this year (earnings amounting to Rs.17.56 lakhs) The buses have plied to a cumulative distance of 1,68,858 km. on December 16 (including 1,16,387 km. covered in Sabarimala trip) with the average vehicle utilisation of 488 km. which is again the highest. Normally, the average daily vehicle utilisation touches 430 km. in the depot. RTC regional manager N. Venkateswara Rao said the region was confident of achieving its target of operating 100 trips to Sabarimala this season. There are also plans to introduce exclusive monthly pass for Metro Express soon.
