Highway workers stage protest
Staff Reporter
Krishnagiri: Members of Krishnagiri District National Highway Workers Association staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Monday urging the State Government to make all contract workers as permanent employees. They also wanted the Government to provide a specified quantum of monetary compensation to workers killed in road accidents on the network of national highways. Employees working under a project should not be changed even if a new contractor was appointed. The Government should provide bonus, gratuity and other incentives to employees such as paid holidays besides provision of photo identity cards. The Government should also provide footwear to all workers they added. State Secretary Centre of Indian Trade Unions, G. Sekar and Harur MLA P. Dilli Babu led the protest.
