Train service

Consequent to the BG conversion, there is no direct train service from Rameswaram to Coimbatore. If an express train is operated from Rameswaram to Mangalore, via Manamadurai, Madurai, Dindigul, Karur, Erode and Coimbatore, to connect the east and west coasts, it will be of help to all sections of the public.

In the return direction through the same route, pilgrims and tourists from the western side will be benefited. I appeal to the Railway Minister to introduce the new train. besides new services from Rameswaram to all State capital cities.

The Ramanathapuram Municipality has caught the stray male dogs, sterilized them and let them go freely.

Due to this strange action, the number of stray male dogs have increased alarmingly in the town.

Is there any safety that the sterilized dogs would not carry rabbies and cause injuries to the people?

It is high time that the Ramanathapuram Municipality took steps to contain this menace by killing these dogs?

Three months ago, while inaugurating the broad gauge train service between Karaikudi and Tiruchi, the Minister of State for Railways, R. Velu, remarked that the gauge conversion work between Karaikudi and Manamadurai would be over by December and trains would be operated from Rameswaram to Chennai via Tiruchi in January 2008 as a Pongal gift.

But, judging by the progress of the work, it is doubtful if the Pongal Gift would materialise.

It looks to be Tamil New Year gift!
