Demand to check coal smuggling in Jharkhand

Ranchi: The Congress Legislator Party on Monday asked the State Government to take action against smuggling of coal in Ramgarh district in Jharkhand.

“The state suffers approximately Rs one crore in revenue due to the practice. Should we tolerate such loot taking place in Ramgarh,” Congress leader Mano Yadav said in Assembly.

Speaker Alamgir Alam asked Chief Minister Madhu Koda to look into the matter.

Another Congress MLA Niel Tirkey threatened that he would not attend the House unless the government take steps to electrify two villages in Simdega district.

The Chief Minister assured that the two areas would get electricity within 60 days. He also promised to consider provision of facilities entitled to those teachers who had got President’s award.

Earlier, BJP MLA Dinesh Kumar Sarangi staged a sit-in outside the House in support of a charter of demands.

Speaker Alamgir Alam sent Chief Minister Madhu Koda and leader of opposition Arjun Munda to persuade Sarangi to call off his agitation by giving an assurance that his demands would be looked into.

Meanwhile the Jharkhand Government has decided to raise a mounted police force to deal with law and order challenges in jungles and hilly terrains affected by Naxalite violence in past few years.

The force will have 25 horses and as many jockeys, besides other personnel, official sources said here.

A total of 74 posts were on Monday approved by the Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Madhu Koda.

Maintenance

An estimated Rs.114.60 crore has been earmarked for the force that also includes maintenance of animals.- PTI
