30 per cent of world population has hypertension Controlled diet, regular exercise can keep it in check PUDUCHERRY: Clinical trials are on to develop a vaccine to control high blood pressure, according Dr. Ezhilan, senior cardiologist, Madras Medical Mission, Chennai. Speaking at the annual general body meeting of the Indian Medical Association (IMA)’s Puducherry unit on “Current concepts in management of hypertension” here on Sunday, Dr. Ezhilan said 30 per cent of the world’s population suffered from hypertension. Recent studies also showed that only 75 per cent of the people in India were aware that they had the problem. High blood pressure could cause serious problems to internal organs such as the heart, brain, eye and kidney, he said. A controlled diet and regular exercise could keep it in check, he added. New office bearersA release from the IMA unit said its general body meeting unanimously elected Dr. V Govindaraj as the new President and Dr. R. V Krishnakumar senior vice president for a two-year term from January 2008.
