BIDAR: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has a bright future in the State, General Secretary of the party and MP Veersingh has said. Addressing a public meeting at Basavakalyan in the district on Sunday, Mr. Veersingh expressed confidence that his party would emerge as a major force in the coming elections to the State Assembly. With the BSP regaining power in Uttar Pradesh with Mayawathi as Chief Minister, Mr. Singh said, the party was emerging stronger in a few other States, including Karnataka. There was a good response to the party from the people, he claimed. He expressed the hope that his party would secure at least 150 seats in the next elections to the Lok Sabha. Mr. Veersingh criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress for not taking steps to improve the living conditions of Dalits and the poor in the country. The Congress was still treating them as its “vote bank”. The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress had lost their base in Uttar Pradesh, he said. State unit General Secretary Vaijnath Suryavanshi inaugurated the meeting and addressed the gathering. Former MLA Zulfikar Hasmi and former president of Bidar Zilla Panchayat Muralidhar Rao Kale were among those who spoke. Activists of the BSP took out a procession from Shivaji Maharaj Park to Gandhi Circle in the town before the public meeting commenced.
