No point in shedding tears over losing power, Dharam Singh tells Yeddyurappa

‘Yeddyurappa converted oath-taking ceremony into BJP sammelan’

JD(S), BJP dented democratic system of governance: Kharge

Traditional start: Congress leaders N. Dharam Singh and Mallikarjun Kharge inaugurating the Janandolan programme of the party in Bidar on Monday.

BIDAR: Former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh on Monday asked former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa not to shed tears over losing power as it was not permanent.

Speaking at a public meeting at Ganesh Maidan here as part of “Janarinda Janarigagi Janandolana” programme launched by the Congress, Mr. Dharam Singh said: “I decided to resign from the post of Chief Minister after former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Mr. Yeddyurappa reached an agreement through resort politics to form a coalition government in the State.”

He, however, observed that Mr. Kumaraswamy should have allowed Mr. Yeddyurappa to run the coalition government.

Mr. Dharam Singh said that Mr. Yeddyurappa did not conduct himself as a representative of the State after assuming charge as Chief Minister.

He conducted pujas after inviting former Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani and converted the oath-taking ceremony into a Bharatiya Janata Party sammelan, Mr. Dharam Singh said.

The former Chief Minister said that those who head a government should have vision.

Criticising Mr. Kumaraswamy, former Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that Mr. Kumaraswamy had stated that he would resign from the post of Chief Minister if any farmer committed suicide in the State. Even after his statement, many had committed suicide. But Mr. Kumaraswamy did not bother, he alleged.

Development works under the Janata Dal (S)-Bharatiya Janata Party rule were confined to Ramanagar Assembly constituency represented by Mr. Kumaraswamy, Holenarsipur constituency represented by H.D. Revanna and Shikaripur constituency represented by Mr. Yeddyurappa, he said.

Assistance

The former Minister said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC president Sonia Gandhi had promised assistance to the State and urged the people of the State to make use of it by supporting the Congress in the coming elections.

President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Mallikarjun Kharge said that the attitude of Janata Dal (S) and the Bharatiya Janata Party had dented the democratic system of governance. President’s rule was imposed on the State owing to the hunger for power by Bharatiya Janata Party-Janata Dal (S) coalition, he added.

Former Minister Maruti Rao Mule said that only Goa and Haryana were known for volatile political situation in the country.

Reputation damaged

But the Bharatiya Janata Party-Janata Dal (S) coalition had damaged the reputation of the State, which was earlier known for political stability, he claimed.

Former Minister Basavaraj Humnabad said that it was the Congress which brought a stay on the Sakrama scheme, considering that the penalty under it was high. Former Speaker Ramesh Kumar, former ministers Allum Veerabhadrappa, Qamar-ul-Islam and Roshan Baig, and MP Narsinghrao Suryavanshi spoke.
