Anantapur
1.15 lakh houses in first phase, 2.2 lakh in phase 2 sanctioned Dharmavaram only town to complete90 p.c. housing works ANANTAPUR: The district administration has decided to cancel the houses sanctioned under the first phase of Indiramma scheme in the urban areas, if the beneficiaries failed to ground their units soon. They were already served three notices to take up the construction and three more notices would be served on them before cancelling the sanction. Construction of first phase of Indiramma houses in urban areas made good progress only in Dharmavaram municipality. The scheme has failed to make headway in Anantapur, Hindupur, Tadipatri, Rayadurg, Kadiri and Guntakal so far. In addition to the first phase houses, the government has already sanctioned another 33,000 houses in seven towns under the second phase. Schedule of worksThe district Collector in a meeting with the housing officials, municipal commissioners directed them to speed up the construction of first phase houses and complete them by January-end. The government has sanctioned about 1.15 lakh houses in the district in the first phase and another 2.2 lakh in the second phase. The second phase houses are scheduled to be completed by March-end next. The officials were instructed to tie up locally for supply of materials like cement bricks, rafters and others to give good momentum to the construction activity. Of the 1,012 houses sanctioned in Dharmavaram about 90 per cent were already completed and the town could be first urban area in the State to have completed the first phase houses. On complaints that beneficiaries were not taking up construction even after sanction of house sites, the Collector said the bankers had already expressed willingness to given bridge loans of Rs. 30,000 each to those who could not afford to take up construction. Of about 1,500 sanctioned in Anantapur, not even half of the houses have been grounded so far. Construction of about 1,100 houses was given to Rural Development Trust near Kurugunta.
