ADGP’s plea to halt CBI probe quashed High Court Round-up

Irregularities in Supplyco purchases


Official wanted quashing of panel recommendations

He had headed the corporation for three years


Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday dismissed a writ petition filed by Additional Director-General of Police (Training) S. Pulikesi seeking to quash the recommendations of the commission which inquired into the irregularities in the purchase of spices and other articles for the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation.

The ADGP, who was the Chairman and Managing Director of the corporation from October 12, 2001, to October 4, 2004, also sought a direction to the CBI not to proceed with the investigation.

According to him, the commission had not heard him before making the recommendations.

The commission headed by former District Judge E.K. Muraleedharan had recommended a CBI investigation into the dealings in the corporation.

Maithri case

A Division Bench has issued notice to Kerala Congress (J) leaders P.J. Joseph and T.U. Kuruvilla on a petition seeking a CBI probe into the irregularities in the implementation of the Maithri Housing Scheme.

The scheme was implemented during the period 1996-2001, when Mr. Joseph was Minister. Mr. Kurivila was the chairman of the Kerala State Housing Board which implemented the scheme

Abhaya’s father’s plea

The father of Sister Abhaya, Mr. Thomas, has approached the High Court seeking to implead him in a petition filed against the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate’s decision to give notice to him before passing an order on the petition seeking production of narco-analysis test conducted on the suspects in the Abhaya case.

The petition was filed by Jomon Puthenpurackal. Mr. Thomas also sought a high-level inquiry into the source of the income earned by Mr. Puthenpurackal when he functioned as convener of the Abhaya Action Council.

Mr. Thomas said that he had been fighting for the last 15 years for bringing the accused to book. Mr. Puthenpurackal had nothing to do with the cases.

Cattle race

The High Court has admitted a writ petition seeking a ban on the cattle race to be conducted in connection with the agriculture mela scheduled from December 21 to 31 in Thodupuzha.

The petition was filed by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Idukki unit.

The petitioner said that the High Court had earlier directed the authorities concerned to take steps to prevent cruelty to the animals during the conduct of the agriculture mela.

The mela is being organised by the Gandhiji Study Centre, Thodupuzha.

Port strikes

A Bench has admitted a writ petition seeking to prevent frequent flash strikes in Cochin Port Trust.

The petition was filed by the Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

According to it, constant flash strikes by workers had affected the credibility of the port. However, the port trust and the unions had not taken any steps to avoid such flash strikes.
