Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has expressed displeasure at the tardy progress of acquisition of land for house sites distribution under the Indiramma housing programme in East and West Godavari districts. Interacting with district Collectors through a video conference on Monday, Dr. Reddy noted that only 65 per cent of land was acquired in West Godavari and 73 per cent in East Godavari. These two districts fared poorly in acquiring land in the first phase of the programme. Dr. Reddy told the two Collectors that of the 38,000 individual plots for which land was yet to be acquired throughout the State, the pendency in the two districts together was for 27,000 plots. Legal delayThe East Godavari Collector informed Dr. Reddy that the land acquisition for 13,027 plots was delayed on account of court cases. The pendency was mostly in Kakinada area where land value had shot up due to construction of Special Economic Zones. The land owners stalled acquisition process by moving courts. The West Godavari Collector said the government pleader had assured that the disposal of cases would be expedited in batches. The Chief Minister heard the success stories of Visakhapatnam and Anantapur in the programme. He recalled that Anantapur was doing very bad six months ago. He said diarrhoea was under control in Adilabad after assuming serious proportions till recently. He expressed the government’s resolve not to allow middlemen exploit NREGP.
