State asked to apprise court on alternative arrangements made to treat patients HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court comprising acting Chief Justice Bilal Nazki and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan on Monday pulled up doctors for their ongoing strike and asked the government to inform it about the alternative arrangements being made to help the suffering patients. The Bench was dealing with a writ petition filed challenging the strike launched by the junior doctors in the wake of the assault on one of them allegedly by a MIM legislator at Niloufer Hospital. The Bench on Monday expressed deep anguish at the state of affairs. It said that it did not take kindly to the contention that the Junior Doctors’ Association had been wound up suddenly. The counsel for the Medical Council of India (MCI) was heard about the rule position and the powers of the MCI to cancel the licence given to the doctors and how to initiate the process in this regard. The Bench said that the issue before the court was the legality of the strike and the adamant attitude of the junior doctors. Advocate-General C. V. Mohan Reddy informed the court about the present situation and the efforts made by the government. The Bench reminded the government that on an earlier occasion, the court had delivered judgment making certain observations about the steps to be taken by the government. It wanted to know how the earlier orders of the court are being implemented. The case was listed for Tuesday.
